Long Beach : Businesses Get More Time to Reopen in Residential Zones
The City Council passed an emergency ordinance Tuesday that will allow businesses that close to reopen, even if they are located in parts of Long Beach zoned primarily for residential use.
City law required that businesses in those areas reopen within a year or lose their rights to operate in areas not zoned for business.
The emergency ordinance will give businesses until 1995 to reopen.
City staff expects the ordinance to help at least 50 businesses.
“Even if it’s one business, we want to help them,” said Robert J. Paternoster, director of planning and building.
