Orange County Fighters Armijo, Magdaleno to Be Featured Tonight
John Armijo and Ernie Magdaleno, two of Orange County’s most talented and colorful boxers, will be featured in co-main events tonight in the monthly boxing program at the Irvine Marriott. The first of six scheduled bouts starts at 7:30 p.m.
Armijo of Huntington Beach and Magdaleno of Westminster hold state titles but won’t risk them in tonight’s eight-round bouts.
Armijo (13-5-1) won the California super welterweight title by knocking out Arnold Williams in July in the main event at the Marriott.
Armijo, who is billed as “The Fighting Lifeguard,” faces Kenny Lopez of Los Angeles.
Magdaleno (13-0), who holds the California light heavyweight title, takes on Rodney Stockton of Los Angeles.
Magdaleno is coming off a long layoff. He has fought only twice this year and his last bout was in April, when he scored an eighth-round knockout of James Kinchen.
Two other local fighters--light heavyweight Eddie Guerrero of Irvine and heavyweight Daniel Damcuta of Anaheim--are on the undercard. Tickets priced at $32, $27 and $22 go on sale today at 10 a.m. in the ballroom of the hotel.
