Bullying Speech and the Right to Boo
The Pope’s glossy, like a nation’s flag, is simply a symbol. Destroying the symbol is not the same as assassinating the Pope, unless emulsion and paper have now transubstantiated into the body and blood of Karol Wojtyla. For Dylan fans to attack the courage of sociopolitical criticism and for Dylan and his fellow performers to fail to speak out on such behavior is more than a symbol of our nation’s failing courage and integrity in the arts. It is the body and blood effete.
