Ready, Set, Go: The long-awaited Walt Disney Concert Hall project begins construction Dec. 10 with an official groundbreaking that morning. The $200-million downtown project includes a 2,380-seat concert hall, designed by Santa Monica-based architect Frank O. Gehry, and a 2,500-car underground garage. The concert hall, which will be the permanent home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will rise on the corner of 1st Street and Grand Avenue, just across 1st Street from the existing Music Center complex. The land is currently used as a parking lot.
