$700-Million Chip Plant for Texas: Advanced Micro Devices Inc. plans to build a modern $700-million semiconductor manufacturing facility in Austin, Tex. The plant, which will employ up to 1,000 people, will produce the company’s next-generation X86 and RISC microprocessors for desktop computers. It will also make highly integrated logic chips for applications such as computer networking and multimedia computers. The plant is expected to be completed in 1994.
