SIMI VALLEY : Public Meeting to Focus on Stadium

Share

Simi Valley residents are invited to comment on the proposed stadium at Royal High School at a special meeting on Monday.

The purpose of the meeting is “to keep the public informed, so the community knows where their money is being spent,” said Kay Benefiel, project manager for Woodland Hills-based Heery International. “It’s a goodwill meeting.”

If the stadium is approved, bids for construction of the 6,000-seat stadium are expected to go out in late 1993, with construction slated to begin in early 1994 so the facility will be ready for the opening of the 1994-95 school year.

City redevelopment funds will be used to finance the $3.1-million project, which includes a football stadium and running track.

School board members have approved recommendations from a committee that the stadium be situated in the southeast portion of the campus and that the playing surface have natural grass.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the library at Royal High School, 1402 Royal Ave., in Simi Valley.
