Tim Perry made a driving layup with 14 seconds left in the third overtime to give the Philadelphia 76ers a 129-128 victory over the Miami Heat on Friday night at Philadelphia.

Jeff Hornacek had 32 points for the 76ers, who won their first home game of the season in keeping Miami winless at the Spectrum in 10 games.

After Perry made the game-winning shot, Glen Rice, who had 35 points for Miami, was fouled with five seconds to go. He made his first shot but missed the second. Miami rebounded, but Rice missed at the buzzer.

Hornacek, who forced the game into a third overtime with a jumper, made another jump shot with 1:14 left to give Philadelphia a 127-125 lead. But Rony Seikaly, who had 26 points for Miami, then made two free throws to tie the score with 31 seconds left.

Andrew Lang had 18 points and a career-high 20 rebounds for Philadelphia, and Hersey Hawkins added 17 points and Armon Gilliam 16. Vernell Coles had 16 points and Harold Miner 16 for the Heat.

The 6-foot-9 Perry was guarded by 7-foot John Salley as he made his game-winning field goal.

“The big guy was pressuring me outside,” Perry said. “He didn’t want me to take a jump shot, so I went to the hoop as hard as I could. That was a real big win for us . . . we really needed that one.”

Philadelphia Coach Doug Moe thought his team “should have had more points, but some of the guys had trouble handling the ball. The little guy (5-7 Greg Grant) did an unbelievable job, especially on Rice’s last shot.

“I knew the foul shot was off. I saw them get the rebound and I saw Rice get his shot off. Grant ran right at him and probably caused him to double pump.”

Miami Coach Kevin Loughery said: “We helped ourselves in the first half and hurt ourselves in the second half. A couple of missed fouls didn’t help. Give Hornacek a lot of credit--he really made some tough shots.”

Miner, a rookie from USC, played 27 minutes, his longest stretch of the season, before fouling out.

“It really felt good to get into a groove,” he said. “It also felt good to get some consistent minutes.”

Portland 104, Sacramento 99--Cliff Robinson scored 21 points and Mario Elie had 15 at Sacramento and the Trail Blazers remained the NBA’s only unbeaten team with their sixth consecutive victory. The Kings had won seven in a row at home, dating back to last season.

Wayman Tisdale had 23 points and eight rebounds for the Kings. Walt Williams scored 22 points and Mitch Richmond had 21 points, 19 in first half.

Charlotte 117, Golden State 110--Dell Curry scored Charlotte’s first seven points in overtime and rookie Alonzo Mourning had 34 points as the Hornets won at Charlotte, N.C., overcoming 46 points by Chris Mullin.

After Billy Owens’ layup gave the Warriors a 102-100 lead in overtime, Curry made a long jumper to tie the score. He then had a steal and layup and a three-point play resulting from another layup to give the Hornets a 107-102 lead with 3:51 left.

Larry Johnson added 24 points for the Hornets and Curry had 23, 11 in overtime. The Warriors have lost six of their last seven games.

Utah 97, Indiana 95--John Stockton made an 18-foot jumper with 1.6 seconds left, lifting the Jazz to its first victory in Indianapolis’ Market Square Arena since 1985. Indiana had three opportunities to break a 95-95 tie in the final minute, but Detlef Schrempf missed two off-balance shots and was tied up on another drive by Stockton.

Karl Malone led all scorers with 34 points and became the 61st NBA player to score 15,000 points. Malone made 14 of 16 free throws and also had 13 rebounds.

Washington 108, Minnesota 100--Harvey Grant scored 11 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter for the Bullets at Minneapolis.

Washington won for the third time in four games after an 0-4 start despite being without injured starters Rex Chapman and Pervis Ellison. The Bullets had only 10 players in uniform as they ended a 15-game road losing streak. Rookie Tom Gugliotta and Michael Adams each scored 24 points.
