The Kansas City Chiefs released Bill Jones, after the running back’s latest brush with the law.

Jones was arrested early Tuesday at his home in Independence, Mo., after his wife called police.

It was unclear if Jones had been charged with a crime. The Municipal Court in Independence had no record of charges, and the city attorney was in court Friday and could not be reached.

A two-sentence news release issued by the team did not specify why Jones was released. Team officials said they would have no further comment.

Jones had practiced Wednesday and Thursday, declining comment after practice Wednesday.

Jones pleaded guilty two years ago to a charge of careless driving after an accident on Interstate 70 near downtown Kansas City. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail and 50 hours of community service work. The jail sentence was suspended, and Jones was put on two years’ probation.

New York Jet wide receiver Al Toon will miss at least the next four games after being placed on the injured reserve list Friday because of a post-concussion syndrome.

Toon sustained the fifth concussion of his career in a 27-16 loss to Denver on Nov. 8. He was held out of New York’s 17-14 victory last Sunday over Cincinnati, complained of headaches, and appeared sluggish and dazed when he reported for practice Monday.

To replace Toon, the Jets activated wide receiver Dale Dawkins.

“I feel a little better, but not much,” Toon said before visiting team physicians Monday.

“He’s not right,” quarterback Ken O’Brien said. “He doesn’t seem normal. I’ve never seen that before.

“If it was me and I got hit on the head and it took me a week, I’d start thinking, ‘What’s going on here?’ ”
