NORWALK : Jury Awards $233,000 to Man Struck by Deputies
A security guard who sued the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for assault and civil rights violations that occurred during a 1990 traffic stop has been awarded $233,000 by a jury in Norwalk.
Randall Peterson, 34, was stopped by officers for riding in his disabled car while it was being towed by a mechanic’s truck. Peterson said deputies Liam Gallager and Patrick O’Neill wrestled him to the ground and hit him in the head and body with a flashlight. The officers arrested Peterson for resisting arrest.
