USAir, British Airways Talks Stall: President Bush and British Prime Minister John Major failed in weekend talks to bridge differences that threaten a proposed $750-million investment by British Airways in Arlington, Va.-based USAir Group., a British official said. “There has been no change,” the official said. “One has to be downbeat” about prospects that the Transportation Department will approve the investment. USAir and British Airways spokesmen had no comment. The proposed alliance would give British Air access to the U.S. air market while USAir would become part of a globe-girdling system that would compete with international travel leaders American, United and Delta Airlines.
