Houston Firm Named Most Profitable: A little known Houston specialty chemicals company, Lyondell Petrochemical Co., is America’s most profitable company, Forbes magazine said in its annual survey of the 50 most profitable companies. Lyondell boasts a 100% three-year average return on equity, the magazine says. That’s far better than the impressive 61.1% ROE claimed by No. 2 ranked American Home Product Corp., best known for brand name drugs such as Anacin and Robitussin.
