For Laguna Hills, everything starts with first-team all-league player Feniello, who averaged 14 points last season. The Hawks’ second-leading scorer and top post player last season, Andrea Nelson, has graduated. Feniello has averaged 16 points this season, including a 23-point effort during a 36-34 loss to South Torrance in the first round of the Bolsa Grande tournament. “Amy carries it for us,” Taylor said. “We switched her to point guard this season, and she’s done pretty well . . . she’s such a hard working kid.” Milo, the team’s top rebounder, and Arzola also return, but Taylor admits Laguna Hills is far from competing at Costa Mesa’s level. “We’ve got a ways to go,” said Taylor, who was Mission Viejo’s head coach last season. “There’s not much tradition here, but we have some good athletes on the JV team. It might take three to four years to turn this around.” Christensen shows some promise outside, and Taylor hopes Colton will develop into a solid post player. “Costa Mesa and Estancia are the class of the league, we’ll fight with everyone else for third. I know our kids are willing to play defense and they don’t back off from anyone.”
