THEY’RE OFF: As Oxnard takes a serious look at gambling parlors as a revenue source (Section B), don’t expect off-track betting interests to be left at the gate. “We’re very concerned about any potential threat to our business,” said Mike Paluszak, manager of the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Off-track betting earns $2.5 million a year for the fairgrounds--nearly half its annual budget. If the card club proposal gains steam, he said, “we will certainly participate in the discussion.”
