WESTERN CONFERENCE : Phoenix Goes After 2-0 Edge Over Seattle
The Phoenix Suns, who won Monday night without a major contribution from Charles Barkley or Kevin Johnson, will try to take a 2-0 lead over the Seattle SuperSonics in the NBA’s Western Conference finals tonight at America West Arena.
The SuperSonics held Barkley and Johnson to 28 points--16 by Johnson. Barkley had 14 rebounds but was nullified on offense by constant double-teaming.
Cedric Ceballos, who scored 21 points Monday in his first start since the opening game of the Laker series, is expected to play tonight after missing the fourth quarter of Game 1, when he was inadvertently kicked in the left foot by Seattle’s Eddie Johnson. Coach Paul Westphal would not say if he would again use Ceballos in the opening lineup or go back to Richard Dumas.
Ceballos didn’t miss any practice time Tuesday because the Suns had only a light workout.
After tonight, the series moves to Seattle for Game 3 on Friday night and Game 4 on Sunday afternoon.
