Boy Scouts Council Installs President

An Oxnard attorney has been honored for his community volunteer work and installed as president of the Ventura County Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Newly elected President Jonathan Fraser Light of Camarillo took his position as the organization’s top volunteer Friday night and also joined four others awarded the Boy Scouts’ highest service honor, the Silver Beaver Award.

Light has performed legal work for the council and been a member of the board of directors since 1986.

The award honored his widespread community efforts, which included his work with United Way of Ventura County and duties as chairman of the Medical Resource Foundation, which raises funds for Ventura County Medical Center.

Other Silver Beaver Award recipients included Robert Steven Turley of Newbury Park, a physicist with Hughes Aircraft Co. Research Laboratories; Charisse Decker of Thousand Oaks, co-owner and office manager of B.W. Decker Equipment; Michael Dickerson of Simi Valley, a managing mechanical engineer with Teledyne Systems, and James Inman of Oxnard, an electronic technician with the Navy.

Fred Buenger of Oxnard was elected the council’s chairman of the board. He is the owner and chief executive officer of Buenger Enterprises, which owns Marine Emporium in Channel Islands Harbor.

Election to the volunteer posts was conducted by mail-in ballots during the last three weeks.
