NORTH HOLLYWOOD : Molester Posed as Alien From Space, Police Say

Share

A 57-year-old man has been charged with molesting girls in North Hollywood and Lake Tahoe after persuading his young victims he was a visitor from a distant galaxy, police said.

“Despite the bizarre lines he uses, this man is a predator,” said Deputy Dist. Atty. Gloria Maria Mas, who filed the charges.

“He preys on the gullibility of innocent children,” she said.

Barry Briskman, 57, was charged with six counts of child molestation stemming from incidents involving two 13-year old girls from North Hollywood that allegedly occurred in 1990 and 1991. Police said the man has no criminal record.

Briskman wove elaborate tales over months of conversations with his victims, police said, telling them he was an alien and that sex would protect the girls during a promised trip to his home planet, prosecutors said.

“This guy had a lot of involvement with these kids, which is typical of pedophiles,” said Los Angeles Police Detective Gary Barthelmess.

Briskman allegedly told the girls his spaceship was hidden near Lake Tahoe. Briskman was arrested one week ago by authorities in Lake Tahoe, Nev., who alleged he had molested girls after using the same story, authorities said.

Although it appears the North Hollywood cases happened first, authorities in Nevada will have the option of prosecuting Briskman first.
