LOCAL NOTES : Long Beach Baseball Lands Rivera, Jones
Two Orange County athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday to play baseball at Cal State Long Beach.
School officials said Steve Rivera of Ocean View has committed to the school. Rivera, an outfielder, hit .518 with three home runs, 22 runs batted in and had 32 stolen bases last season. He was a first-team All-Orange County selection.
Marcus Jones of Esperanza also signed, said his mother, Sherry Jones.
Jones, a pitcher, was 12-2 with a 1.39 earned-run average. He also hit .365 with two home runs and 32 RBIs. He shut out Simi Valley, then the nation’s No. 1 ranked team, 4-0, in the Southern Section Division I championship game.
Jones was picked by the Seattle Mariners in the June free-agent amateur draft. He will play for the West in the U.S. Olympic Festival this summer.

Mike Lutterloh of El Toro High School has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Cal State Los Angeles, El Toro Coach Tom McCaffrey said.
Lutterloh, a two-year starter at catcher, hit .350 with four home runs and 20 RBIs last season. He was a second-team All-South Coast League selection.

Antje Fritschi has signed a letter of intent to play tennis at UC Irvine, school officials announced.
Fritschi played at Grossmont College last year and was the State singles champion. She was also part of a doubles team that finished second in State.
She is a native of Dusseldorf, Germany.

Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza shot par 72 to take the lead in the girls’ competition at the Mission Hills Desert junior tournament at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage.
Booth is at 145, one stroke ahead of Keri Cornelius of Scottsdale, Ariz., with one round remaining.
In the boys’ 13-14 division, Stephen Wagner of Mission Viejo shot 73 and remains two strokes ahead of second-place John Park of Fullerton.
