Pratt & Whitney Union Accepts Cuts: Workers at United Technologies Corp.’s jet engine unit voted in favor of contract concessions that are needed to preserve its Connecticut operations, the company said. United Technologies said in April that it would close two Connecticut plants and reduce operations at a third if it did not get the International Assn. of Machinists to agree to a package of concessions. The union voted 55% to 45% to accept the package, which eliminates pay raises and increases the amount of money workers pay for medical insurance. Pratt, hard-hit by a global slump in demand for new jet aircraft, plans to eliminate 11,000 jobs by the end of next year.
