VENTURA : Resident Sparks Fire While Clearing Brush

Share

A fire that was sparked by a resident clearing brush from a Ventura back yard Thursday scorched two acres of a hillside, authorities said.

It took firefighters about an hour to put out the blaze above Delaware Drive near Ventura Avenue, which left a wide gray patch on a tree-covered hill.

The fire, reported at 3:23 p.m., started when a tool the unidentified resident was using malfunctioned and sparked the brush he was trying to clear, authorities said.

No one was injured and no property was damaged, said Ken Hess, assistant chief of the Ventura Fire Department.
