AGOURA HILLS : City Workers to Try New 4-Day Schedule
In an effort to meet smog-cutting requirements, Agoura Hills city employees will work 10-hour days and take Fridays off, starting in August.
The new schedule, approved Wednesday night by the City Council, will be followed for a six-month trial period. It was established mostly to cut vehicle trips to and from city offices by 20%, as required by the South Coast Air Quality Management District, said Agoura Hills Administrative Assistant Brian Torsney.
City offices will be open between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., and employees will get an hourlong lunch break, Torsney said.
The new schedule also is expected to save a small amount of money for the city, due to fewer hours of heating, air conditioning, and lighting and an anticipated slight drop in the amount of sick time employees claim for weekly appointments, Torsney said.
Employees in other cities, including Thousand Oaks, Pasadena and Glendale, also have switched to four-day work weeks, he said.
