A 28-year-old Lake Forest woman reported missing last week told authorities she had been in San Diego, a sheriff’s spokesman said Thursday.

About 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, a Santa Ana police officer saw Lynette Jean Johnson standing next to a car talking to the driver at 15th and Main streets, said Lt. Dick Olson of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

She first gave the officer another name but then admitted her identity and said she had returned from San Diego on Tuesday, Olson said.

Johnson, who was a nanny for a South County family, was last seen July 11, when she borrowed her boyfriend’s car to visit friends in Santa Ana. Two days later, Santa Ana police found the car, a 1987 Jeep Wrangler, in a vacant lot with the driver’s side window missing.

Johnson told Santa Ana police she did not realize she has been listed as missing since July 21. Johnson, who seemed to be in good health, told police she had friends in Santa Ana and declined a ride.
