Glenn Weiner of Cypress, the top-seeded player in the U.S. Tennis Assn. Boys’ 18s National Championships, lost to 13th-seeded B.J. Stearns of Seminole, Fla., 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, in fourth-round play at Kalamazoo, Mich.

Eric Lin of Anaheim lost to Ryan Ideta of Lahaina, Hawaii, 6-3, 6-3.

In 16s, Kevin Kim of Fullerton lost to Tripp Phillips of Charlotte, N.C., 6-2, 6-2.

San Clemente defeated Villa Park, 15-4, in the quarterfinals of the 15-and-under National Junior Olympics water polo championships at Foothill College in Los Altos. San Clemente plays Concord in the semifinals today.

Jim Farley scored seven goals and Johnathon Hewko had four goals for San Clemente.

SoCal of Tustin remained undefeated in the 17-and-under and 15-and-under divisions. The 17-and-under team beat DeAnza, 12-6, to advance to the semifinals. The 15-and-under team beat previously unbeaten Merced, 9-5.

Casey Hogan of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club was the top finishing girl at the International Naples Sabot Junior sailing championship in Long Beach.

Hogan, 16, who will be a junior at Newport Harbor High, finished ninth overall.

Brian Bissell, 13, also of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, won the final championship race and finished fifth overall.

Justin Boatman, a golfer from Saddleback College, accepted a scholarship offer from USC, Saddleback Coach Bill Cunerty said. He picked USC over Pepperdine and San Diego State.

Boatman, who played at Dana Hills, led the Gauchos to a 17-1 record and the Orange Empire Conference championship. He also won the Orange County Amateur championship in 1991 and ’92.
