Input Sought on Use of Housing Money

Share

Ventura County supervisors are seeking public input today on how the county should use $3.5 million in federal funds to provide affordable housing for low-income residents.

Susan Van Abel, a principal administrative analyst, said the testimony will be used to formulate the county’s 1994 Comprehensive Housing Affordability Strategy. The public hearing will begin at 10 a.m. today in the board’s hearing room at the county Government Center.

“We are at a point now where we really need to hear from the nonprofit organizations on what they see our needs are,” Van Abel said.

To receive the federal housing funds, county officials are required to define the ways that they will use the money. Traditionally, the money has been used to help the poor obtain housing or fix up their homes.

Van Abel said a draft report should be finished in November.
