The dismembered remains of an airman’s wife were found in a refrigerator, along with a three-page letter left by her husband, who shot and wounded himself hours later, police said.

The remains of Michelle L. Terek, 21, were found Sunday night in several garbage bags in the refrigerator of the couple’s duplex at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Police Chief Chester Hill said.

Douglas Albert Terek, 24, was in critical condition Monday at a hospital. Police said he shot himself in the side of the head with a .22-caliber handgun. Terek is the only suspect in the killing.
