From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A Cuba-bound school bus crossed the International Bridge at Laredo, Tex., into Mexico, after the end of a three-week standoff between U.S. Customs and religious activists protesting the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba. Amid cheers by the vehicle’s 30 passengers, the yellow bus was driven into Mexico en route to Tampico, Mexico, where it will be ferried to Havana. The bus had been parked in a U.S. Customs parking lot since July 29, when Customs officials seized it and flattened its tires on learning it was bound for the Communist-ruled island.
