PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Six Are Cut; 12 More Will Be Released Today

The Rams cut six players Monday and will trim 12 more today to reach the 60-player limit. Safety Eric Buckley, guard Joe Garten, cornerback Eric Geter, tackle John James, cornerback Alfred Jordan and linebacker Anthony Williams were released.

Offensive tackle Darryl Ashmore, who hasn’t practiced since suffering strained ligaments in his left knee on the first day of training camp, participated in Monday’s light workout.

“I had no problem, but (today) will be the real test when I put on the pads and really go at it,” Ashmore said. “It’s been five weeks off and I never had a chance to get going. Hopefully, I can knock all the rust off in a week so I can get back in there and play.”

Jerome Bettis, the Rams’ No. 1 draft pick, did some light running, testing the ankle that was injured Aug. 11. He said the workout went well and he didn’t feel any pain.
