Two Oakland-based Bakeries to Merge: Dallas-based Specialty Foods Corp. said it is merging Mother’s Cake & Cookie Co. and Pacific Coast Baking Co. The companies will make up the Western Bakery Group, which will have annual revenue of more than about $400 million, representing one-fifth of the total revenue of Specialty Foods Corp., Chairman Robert Haas said. Specialty Foods, formed by a group of investors, in August completed a $1.1-billion leveraged buyout of eight food companies, including Mother’s and Pacific Coast Baking, from Beledia, a Dutch company. Ft. Worth billionaire Robert M. Bass’ Keystone Inc. and Keystone affiliate Acadia Partners L.P. hold a majority of Specialty Foods’ stock.
