Students to Decorate Museum’s Yule Trees
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library has invited local elementary school students to decorate the museum’s Christmas trees for the second year in a row.
Ten schools chosen on a first-come, first-served basis will participate in the program, which will culminate in a Dec. 11 tree-lighting ceremony that is expected to be attended by former President Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy Reagan.
Program coordinator Denise LeBeck said 10 artificial trees will be scattered throughout the museum and will be available for decoration between Nov. 29 and Dec. 10.
“The school decides which classes participate and they can come any time--weekends, after the museum is closed--to decorate the trees,” LeBeck said. “We are also inviting one student from each school to participate in the lighting ceremony.”
Last year, children decorated trees outside the museum, but windy weather, which knocked off many decorations, prompted the library to move the event inside, LeBeck said.
As of Thursday, only three schools--Wildwood, Aspin and Westlake Hills--had signed up to take part, LeBeck said.
Schools interested in participating may call LeBeck at 522-8511.
