Civic Support
Measure W passed with a sound victory. That seven out of every 10 voters who cast a vote willingly volunteered to add another assessment to their property taxes reinforces Santa Paula’s reputation for supporting civic endeavors the people deem important. Their Blanchard Community Library has received the reprieve it deserved--their center for learning and knowledge preserved.
I understand that there were other cities in the county who were awaiting the outcome of our library campaign with great interest. If so, these municipalities should now be encouraged.
But a word of caution. Santa Paulans have historically pulled together to finance their own civic projects and traditionally rallied behind causes that would improve their community. Such positive results may prove hard to muster in communities lacking Santa Paula’s character.
Yesterday, We Will Win With W was a wish. Today, We Won With W confirms our city’s historic tradition. We saved our Blanchard Community Library and we are right proud.
