Officer Shoots Gunfire Suspect in Leg
A police officer exchanged gunfire with a man resisting arrest Friday night, wounding him slightly in the leg, a police spokesman said Saturday.
Police responded to a report of an armed man near Stanford Avenue and Dale Street around 9:15 p.m. Friday, said Sgt. Dan Lyons. When officers arrived in the neighborhood and ordered the man to drop his handgun, the man “moved toward the officers in a threatening manner” and fired the gun, Lyons said.
One of the officers returned fire, wounding the suspect in the leg, Lyons said. The man was then arrested without further incident, he added. After being treated at a local hospital Friday night, the man remained in custody Saturday.
Like all officer-involved shootings, the matter has been referred for investigation to the Orange County district attorney’s office.
Lyons refused to release the arrested man’s name or additional details on the shooting.
