GO SEEK THE POW WOW ON THE MOUNTAIN AND OTHER INDIAN STORIES OF THE SACANDAGA VALLEY by Don Bowman, illustrated by Deborah Delaney (Bowman Books/The Greenfield Review Press/ Greenfield Center, New York 12833: $12.95; 93 pp., paperback original). In 1930, a new reservoir flooded the Sacandaga Valley in Upstate New York, covering the settlements of its Mohawk and Abenaki inhabitants. Drawing on the memories of his grandfather and other survivors, Don Bowman rescued the tales the people of Sacandaga told, and presents them in readable, modern versions. The most interesting stories blend elements from Amerindian and European lore, including accounts of unhappy, interracial romances.
