GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD / 1994 PREVIEW : Foothill
Coach: Jerry Whitaker (16th year).
1993: Century League champion, eighth in both county and Southern Section Division II championships.
Key returners: Sabrina Caplis, Jr., 800, 1600; Tricia Eldridge, So., HJ; Sarah McCaffrey, So. LJ, TJ; Katie Mook, Jr., 100 LH, 300 LH, TJ; Tara Oettinger, Jr., 100, 200, LJ.
Key newcomers: Stacy Brandon, Fr., 800, 1600; Nicky Desmond, Fr., 1600, 3200; Mara Logan, Fr., 100 LH, 300 LH; Greta Martinez, Fr., 1600, 3200.
Outlook: The Knights resemble a two-girl wrecking crew. Oettinger and Mook each won two events in the Century League finals last year, leading the team to a narrow victory over El Modena. Mook won league titles in the triple jump and the 100-meter low hurdles, and Oettinger won the 100 and 200 meters over Villa Park’s Megan Reppe. The junior is also one of the county’s finest in the long jump. Brandon, Desmond and Martinez are a trio of freshmen distance runners who should help the Knights in dual meets, but the talent-rich Century League might present some problems at the league final meet.
