LOS ANGELES : Smoking Banned in All Municipal Buildings
The Los Angeles City Council approved an ordinance Wednesday that bans smoking in all city buildings and offices.
“It’s a smoke-free workplace law for all 44,000 city employees,” said Glenn Barr, spokesman for Councilman Marvin Braude.
Last April, smoking was prohibited by council order in City Hall, City Hall East and City Hall South. The new ordinance gives the ban the force of law, Barr said.
Other facilities owned and leased by the city were previously covered under an ordinance that restricted but did not bar smoking in public and private workplaces. The new law imposes a total ban in those facilities.
