Let’s Aggressively Fight Illegal Immigration

Share

* Illegal immigration will be a deciding issue for many voters in November. One of the candidates for Congress, Rich Sybert, has a reasoned and non-bigoted plan (Valley Commentary June 26). His opponent, incumbent Anthony C. Beilenson (D-Woodland Hills), talks a good game but falls short in action. Mr. Beilenson introduced five good bills in Congress at the beginning of the term and is politely waiting for them to die in the Judiciary Committee at the end of his term.

Eighteen years of Mr. Beilenson’s non-actions is enough. When 10% of the population of another country is encouraged (by both our policies and theirs) to illegally emigrate, it is prudent for society to exercise some control. We need to reduce the incentives and to enforce the laws of the United States.

The United States welcomes more immigrants legally each year than the rest of the world’s countries combined. Our hospitality should be respected, not abused. Mr. Sybert has a good plan.
