Machine Tool Orders Up 17.4% in June: Orders also jumped 20% for the first half of 1994 from the same period a year ago, an industry trade group said. The Assn. for Manufacturing Technology announced that June orders for U.S.-made machine tools totaled $379.2 million, compared to $322.9 million in May and $313.7 million in June, 1993. Orders for the first six months of 1994 totaled $2.12 billion, an increase from $1.77 billion for the first half of 1993, the group said. “Late last year, most forecasters were predicting a relatively flat order rate for the first six months of ‘94,” said Albert W. Moore, president of the McLean, Va.-based association. “In light of this, the 20% increase year-on-year through June is welcome news.”
