THOUSAND OAKS : Pool of 300 Helpers Too Few for Plaza

The Civic Arts Plaza will not open for another three months, but already 300 volunteers have signed up to work as ushers, tour guides and all-around helpers.

But they need reinforcements. The Friends of the Civic Arts Plaza group is seeking more volunteers. Members must pay $10 in annual dues and devote their time to helping the cultural center run smoothly. For all that work, they do get some perks--ushers can slip into the theater and see shows for free, as long as seats are available.

“It’s a great opportunity to get involved with the arts in Thousand Oaks,” said JoAnn Arguelles, who serves as secretary for the group. “We’re pretty excited that we have so many people--and we’ll use them all.”

The Friends will hold an introductory meeting 7 p.m. Aug. 4 at City Hall. For more information, call Marianne Corney at 496-8688.
