Sophisticated DNA tests have begun in an effort to show whether blood from a suspected murder site in Orange County is consistent with samples taken from the body of Denise Huber, officials said Monday.

Linking the blood found in the Laguna Hills storage facility to Huber is a crucial element in determining whether the 23-year-old Newport Beach woman was killed there. A match would almost surely transfer the prosecution of suspect John J. Famalaro from Arizona to Orange County.

Huber’s nude and handcuffed body was found two weeks ago in a freezer in a moving truck outside Famalaro’s home in Dewey, near Prescott. Since the grim discovery, authorities have been building a case against the former Orange County man and trying to determine where he will be tried.

All of the blood testing is being done in Orange County. Should the blood from the storage facility be identified as Huber’s, the findings would support the long-held theory of law enforcement officials that Huber died shortly after her disappearance June 3, 1991.
