The Incredible Shrinking Van

For the corporate executive who is overwhelmed and stressed out--and can afford to pay $175 an hour for help--two New York psychologists offer therapy to go.

“We thought up the idea of coming to the client and using every moment of time while in transit,” said psychologist Ursula Strauss. She started Mobile Psychological Services in April with partner Shelley Lennox.

Before, an executive might stop for a martini after work. “Now it’s life on the move,” Strauss said. “Instead of the martini, they’re getting intense therapy.”

A fully equipped but unmarked van comes to the executive’s office. Many execs receive treatment on the way to a business meeting or to the airport or commuting home.

“We tell the driver to keep at a slow pace, stay in the right-hand lane, avoid rapid turns,” Strauss said.
