State Claims Waste-Hauling Firm Ran Facility Without a Permit
The state attorney general’s office has filed a lawsuit against a Huntington Beach hazardous-waste hauling company alleging that it operated a medical waste transfer station in Bakersfield without a permit.
Security Environmental Systems operated the transfer station from January, 1991, to April, 1993, according to the lawsuit filed Thursday in Orange County Superior Court.
Company President Ellen Batzel disputed the allegations made in the lawsuit, saying that Security Environmental has all the proper licenses and intends to show them to the state immediately. She called the lawsuit “spurious” and denied that Security Environmental has ever operated without a license.
The state’s suit, filed on behalf of the state director of health services, asks the court to assess damages of $10,000 against Security Environmental for operating without a permit, and another $10,000 for every day that the transfer site was open.
