BALDWIN PARK : Memorial Service to Honor Local Educator

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday for Violette G. Steiner, an art teacher and coordinator of the Head Start program for the Baldwin Park Unified School District for 39 years.

Steiner died Aug. 11. She was 88 years old.

Steiner received many awards during her lifetime, including Baldwin Park Citizen of the Year and Educator of the Year, as well as commendations from the Baldwin Park Business and Professional Woman’s Club, the Chamber of Commerce and the County Board of Supervisors.

Steiner graduated from Greeley Teachers College in her home state of Colorado before moving to California in 1929 and marrying Everette (Bill) Steiner, who died more than 20 years ago.

As a young woman, Steiner enjoyed trick shooting from horseback and rodeo horse racing. Later, she wrote and spoke about children and women’s rights, while continuing her education at UCLA and USC.

Survivors include her sister, Betty Lee Robb, four sons and 18 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be at the Oakdale Memorial Park Chapel in Glendora. The family asks that any remembrances be made in Steiner’s name to the City of Hope in Duarte.
