A 17-year-old Monterey Park boy was shot after an argument between two groups of youths Saturday night at a fast-food restaurant, authorities said.

The boy, who was not identified because of his age, was listed in stable condition after surgery Sunday with a gunshot wound to his upper thigh, said Sgt. Kevin McKeown of the Fountain Valley Police Department.

His wound is not expected to be life threatening, McKeown said.

The boy was shot at about 11 p.m. after he and a group of friends left the Family Fun Center in the 9000 block of Recreation Circle and walked across the street to Tommy’s Hamburgers, McKeown said.

Four young males in a car approached the group and one of them opened fire with a handgun before fleeing north on Magnolia Avenue, McKeown said.

The wounded youth and his friends ran back across the street and he collapsed in the parking lot of the Fun Center, McKeown said. The incident is under investigation and police have asked any witnesses to the shooting to call the Police Department at (714) 965-4400.
