World IN BRIEF : PHILIPPINES : 62 Coal Miners Killed in Explosion

A methane gas explosion killed at least 62 coal miners working 500 feet underground, an official for the state-run oil company that owns the mine said. Fresh air was being pumped into the mine as efforts continued to rescue 27 people still missing after the explosion. About 170 miners were in the mine when workers hit a pocket of water, sending a rush of water accompanied by methane gas that exploded.
