THOUSAND OAKS : 2 Areas Targeted for Cleanup Day

Share

Thousand Oaks residents will have two opportunities to do a little fall cleaning on Saturday: They can pick up litter from a creek bed, or clear excess brush from a rugged trail.

As part of the California Coastal Commission’s Beach Clean-Up Day, volunteers will be picking up trash along Arroyo Conejo Creek in Newbury Park, a habitat for fish, frogs, skunks and raccoons.

Volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. in the parking lot just north of the tennis courts at Borchard Park, 190 N. Reino Road. They should wear old clothes and sturdy shoes and bring gloves.

Those who prefer the mountains to the creeks can go to the Lyndmere trail head off Janss Road in Thousand Oaks at 8 a.m. Saturday to help volunteers clear the hiking paths. Experts will be on hand to train people how to clear brush, in preparation for the city’s official open space maintenance day Oct. 15.

“It’s a wonderful chance to get some fresh air, get some exercise, see what the trails actually look like and provide some valuable public service,” Councilwoman Judy Lazar said.
