American Airlines to Cut 550 Jobs: AMR Corp., parent company of American Airlines, will eliminate 550 gate and ticket agent jobs at 30 U.S. airports and turn the work over to outside contractors as part of a sweeping cost-cutting program. AMR said the move will save $35 million next year and about $130 million a year when completed, in five years. The jobs, mostly at smaller airports, will be cut by June 1.
