Irvine Valley College

Names New President

Irvine Valley College has a new president. Daniel Larios, former dean of instruction at Tillamook Bay Community College in Oregon, took over the job this term.

Larios, 46, a dean at Saddleback College for six years before moving to Oregon, succeeded Anna L. McFarlin, who retired after 25 years with the Saddleback Community College District and five years as Irvine Valley College president.

Larios has 11 years of teaching experience at high school and college levels and holds a doctorate in education from Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Famous Artists in the Spotlight

Here’s a chance to view some of the world’s finest artwork without leaving Orange County.

Golden West College’s Fine Arts Gallery will hold an exhibition of prints of the works of many famous artists through Sept. 30. Admission to the gallery, at 15744 Golden West St., is free and the public is invited.

The new exhibition, called “Eclectic Prints,” covers many decades and artistic styles. A reception for the show is scheduled slated from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 12 in the gallery.

The exhibit will include works by the work of Goya, Hogarth, Warhol, Chagel and Miro. “The exhibition is a collection of prints of different decades, images, variety and techniques,” said Donna Sandrock, curator of the gallery.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

FULLERTON

Cal State Fullerton Turns to Broadway

A bit of Broadway will come to Cal State Fullerton this year.

Art shows and theatrical attractions will be presented at the university by Professional Artists in Residence, or PAIR.

A series titled “Footlights” opens Oct. 23 with the only Southern California performance by actress Loretta Swit--a star on the long-running television hit “MASH”--in the comedy “Shirley Valentine.” On Nov. 12, Tony award winners Debbie Shapiro Gravitte (“Jerome Robbins’ Broadway”) and Michael Maguire (“Les Miserables”) will star in the musical revue “Everything’s Coming Up Broadway.”

A stage adaptation of Mark Twain’s “The Diaries of Adam and Eve” will be presented March 11 and the musical “Forever Plaid” will be performed April 7.

All performances will take place in the newly renovated Plummer Auditorium, located at 201 E. Chapman Ave. To order tickets or request a brochure with more information, call the campus Cultural Events office at (714) 773-3347.
