Shibley Boyes, a fixture on the Los Angeles musical scene for nearly 40 years, died Saturday in Los Angeles. The concert pianist was the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s pianist from the 1930s to the 1960s and also accompanied opera productions at the Hollywood Bowl. She was 91.

She studied in Europe after graduating from Los Angeles Teachers College (now Los Angeles City College) and returned to the United States to work as a music translator in New York.

After returning to California, she worked with the Hollywood Bowl and the philharmonic and was a coach for the Los Angeles Music Guild Opera and the American Music Theater. For many years she participated in the Evenings on the Roof chamber music concerts, in which international stars performed with local musicians.
