BAYWATCHERS: A firm preseason prediction by Hall of Famer Deacon Jones, now a Rams broadcaster: The Rams will win one of their two games against San Francisco. . . . The Rams have a reputation of playing the 49ers tough--the Rams lead in their oldest rivalry, 48-40 with two ties. But: The 49ers (8-2), who host the Rams (4-6) today (C2), have won the last eight, including a sound thumping earlier this year. The game will be televised by cable ESPN at 5 p.m.

BOB’S DAY: When Rep. Robert K. Dornan (R-Garden Grove) beamed on election night: “This is a great day for America,” did you get the feeling he’d be backing down on his promise that this would be his last term? . . . . Dornan, who says he may reconsider after the GOP takeover on Capitol Hill, is a proven fund-raiser if he decides to run beyond this sixth term. Time magazine lists him the fifth-biggest campaign spender in the House this election, at $1.8 million.

HEAD HEN: In an age of political correctness, would people dare to call themselves “Hens & Chickens?” Anita Williams, a graphic designer at Golden West College, is a founding member of such a group. . . . They’re an unusual fund-raising arm for the Huntington Beach college. The “Hens & Chickens” sew quilts--a major group project is nearing completion--which are then sold to benefit Golden West. . . . Says Williams: “People are very receptive to quilts.” Note: The “Hens & Chickens” name actually comes from a type of quilt pattern.

DISNEYLAND REDUX: The TV show “Disneyland” debuted 40 years ago in a neat swap: Walt Disney promised the show to ABC if it would help him build his theme park in Anaheim. Both sides won: The show became a blockbuster hit--with a few title changes--and Disneyland became a household name. . . . ABC has announced that on Dec. 10, it will run an hourlong retrospective of the long-running Disney TV show. Says Walt’s nephew Roy: “Walt was one of the few people in town who saw TV as an opportunity and not as a threat.”
