A 23-year-old Newhall man is being held in Ventura County Jail after leading Simi Valley police on a car chase moments after a delicatessen was burglarized, police said Sunday.

Kevin Hilber Claggett is accused of breaking into the Abba deli on Los Angeles Avenue about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers noticed the burglary while on patrol and began a pursuit through Simi Valley, onto the Simi Valley Freeway and eventually back onto surface streets.

Police recovered the deli’s cash register inside Claggett’s vehicle.

Claggett suffered a broken nose when he was tackled by officers attempting to arrest him, police said, adding that he was treated at Simi Valley Hospital before being booked into County Jail on suspicion of burglary.
