A 13-year-old girl was released uninjured after a short but wild ride with a carjacker who stole her family’s car as she sat in the back seat, Los Angeles police said Sunday.

As he sped through Pacoima over the next 30 minutes--part of that time with the girl in tow--the carjacker wrecked several cars and shot at two people before he fled on foot.

The incident started at 11 p.m. Saturday when the gunman shot out the right front window of the car parked in the 12800 block of Filmore Street as the girl was waiting inside the car for family members visiting a nearby residence, Police Sgt. Al Yarbrough said.

“Don’t look at me,” the gunman reportedly told her as he pointed a small-caliber revolver and demanded the keys, Yarbrough said.

The gunman--believed to be in his 20s with a shaved head and wearing a Raiders football jacket--drove off with the girl in the car. But less than two blocks away, he crashed into a parked car, Yarbrough said.

The carjacker got out to check for damage and fired several shots that missed a man who had witnessed the accident from his front yard, Yarbrough said.

He then pointed the gun at the girl, demanded her jewelry and let her go.

Yarbrough said the gunman got back into the car and sped away, only to smash into another parked car a few blocks away. He fled on foot from the accident to Woodcock Avenue near Davenport Street in Pacoima and jumped into another car parked in the driveway of a home.

When the owner heard the engine start, she ran outside. The gunman fired six shots at her, but missed. He damaged the carport as he backed out of the driveway, Yarbrough said.

The spree ended when the vehicle’s transmission failed, Yarbrough said. The gunman, who was still at large Sunday, abandoned the car and fled on foot, he said.
