SANTA PAULA : Teen-Ager Dies After Truck Crashes, Burns
A Santa Paula teen-ager was killed when his truck crashed into a concrete culvert and burst into flames, the California Highway Patrol said.
Luis Huizar, 17, a farm worker from Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 12:15 a.m. Sunday on Telegraph Road east of Olive Road near Saticoy, a Ventura County coroner’s official said.
Investigators said the pickup truck left the roadway for unknown reasons and crashed into a drainage ditch. The vehicle caught fire and Huizar died instantly, the CHP reported.
He was alone in the truck, investigators said. It is unclear whether Huizar was wearing his seat belt or whether alcohol or drugs played a part in the accident, the CHP said.
Huizar is survived by his parents in Mexico, the coroner’s office said.
